What to Wear for a Night out When It's Cold

Sometimes, it’s hard to figure out what to wear in the coldest time of the year, when the plummeted mercury puts its limitations on our fashion choices. While knits and sweatshirts have always been some of my favorite things to wear, on a night out it feels nice to wear something special. When a party dress is not an option, one has to be a little more creative. Here’s a few things I always consider when putting together a party outfit in the winter.

The Big Bang Theory

Some say it’s possible to cut your own bangs – at least if you are not intimidated by the countless horror videos on YouTube. According to the Internet even a professional beauty vlogger is capable of creating a true disaster, so I decided to leave the task to a professional. It was probably a good decision since I've never had bangs before. Let alone cut them.

The Puffer Jacket

When I was in middle school, my mother got me a huge puffer jacket. Just the thought of wearing it got me so nervous that I stayed up all night before going to school, and eventually, we had to return the damn thing. Now remembering that incident makes me laugh. Talk about first world problems! However, it’s crazy to think that many years later, I'm wearing a similar jacket voluntarily.

The Embroidery Trend

So, you may have noticed that I’ve been posting here less than usual. I’ve had perhaps the busiest few weeks of my life writing my bachelor's thesis, and I felt the need to put all my focus towards that for a while. I couldn’t be happier to finally have more time for blogging and so many other things!

Statement Sleeves

Ruffles and exaggerated sleeves have been everywhere throughout spring and summer. I’m all for over-sized items, but it took some time for me to warm up to ruffles. Too much of them can easily look a little frumpy and it seemed like a trend that would be over in a second.

It turned out that I just hadn’t found the right item. This shirt has the perfect amount of puff and the stripy fabric makes it look like a more feminine version of a classic cotton shirt. It also seems that we’ll see more statement sleeves in the fall season, so they are not just a thing of the moment.

Sports Luxe

Whether you’re on a holiday or working throughout the summer, you probably want to wear something easier and lighter. One way to do it, is to take inspiration from sportswear. Luxe trainers, velvet sweatpants and satin bombers combine the best of both worlds; feeling comfy and looking chic. You can also mix and match your sportswear with something formal to create the look.

Metallic Bag

Huvilakatu is probably one the most iconic streets in Helsinki. Even though I live quite nearby, for some reason I’ve never realized to use this location. The street is full of cute little villas and it's definitely a must-see place for visitors. The weather was quite chilly as you probably can see from my outfit and we had to take cover from the rain a few times. I also had to protect my new camera lens (which I forgot to mention in the last post). So, this is my second set of pictures with the new lens and at least I think the difference is clear as day. You wouldn't believe that changing just the lens could make such difference, but it was definitely worth it.

Fake or Inspired?

Is there a difference between borrowing and copying? Is there even such a thing as original design? These were the questions I was asking when I saw this bag at Zara. Inspired, fake of whatever, I think it’s a stunning bag. I didn’t even dream about finding a bag that would work for my style so perfectly.

Casual Friday

Ah, Friday, the day of the week when you feel like making the least effort. It's the perfect day to wear a hoodie, a pair of trainers or whatever makes you comfortable. Thankfully, hoodies and sportswear are no longer just for teenagers and working out – at the moment, even those nineties buttoned sweatpants are becoming a perfectly acceptable choice.

Velvet and Patent

This cap was my first introduction to the velvet trend. During the winter, we have seen velvet on almost every piece of clothing and accessory from thigh-high boots to bombers and party dresses, so why not caps too! The material is very luxurious and distinctly 90’s, so when mixed with casual items it gives the outfit a boost. For a real statement, you can even dress in it from head to toe.

Trench Coat and Culottes

I have found culottes to be a great alternative for everyday jeans. I've come across plenty of 70’s inspired printed ones as well as more sophisticated pleated designs. I too decided to jump on the train
